Liver disease

Liver disease is any condition that causes liver injury or inflammation that affects liver functions. Some of the many causes include infection, injury, and exposure to drugs or toxic compounds. Because liver disease in some patients may be asymptomatic but cause significant injury, it is important to screen for early detection, make an accurate diagnosis, and monitor patient's conditions with liver disease tests.

ASTGOT
Aspartate transaminase (AST) is an enzyme detected in the liver, heart, and other muscles.
ALTGPT
Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) is an enzyme commonly found in the liver and acts as a key target when detecting a liver infection.
ALP
Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is an enzyme related to the bile duct and often increases when the bile duct is blocked.
GGT
Gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) is an enzyme commonly found in the liver and is very sensitive to changes in liver functions.
Total Bilirubin
Total bilirubin includes both direct and indirect bilirubin, and is frequently increased in many liver diseases.
Bilirubin
Direct bilirubin (bound to other compounds) in the liver is measured.
Albumin
Albumin, a type of protein produced in the liver, is measured to determine how well the liver can produce proteins.
Total Protein
Proteins, including antibodies, and blood albumin that fight off infections are measured (Antibodies are not produced in the liver).
